Calendar Designs

While designing the three calendars for The Humane Society I took into account the client and art director comments. I included a calendar and picture of an animal on each calendar page, as well as a fun fact about the animal in the photo and three coupons. I chose the layout of these items so everything would be easy to read and find. I put the coupons on the bottom of the page for easy cut outs for the customers. For each calendar, I wanted the page to have contrast and visual appeal, so I chose a color scheme of two colors to go with each month. Both colors are ones that relate to the month, such as red and green for December.

I placed the text, calendar, and picture on the page in order for the layout to have good alignment. I also did not want the items to be so close in proximity that everything seemed squashed, but close enough that the items looked related. To place to calendar on the Indesign page I used Microsoft Office Excel. I created the calendar in the Excel program and then placed a copy into Indesign. I used the table panel options to change the size of the columns and rows, the font of the weekdays and numbers, and the color of rows to match the page’s color swatches.
